Hi All I am trying to use this to reach out. Just some thoughts and questions and updates .. I look forward to our traveling meetings and to learning more about what everyone is doing. In the meantime, I just want to share something I just discovered. Substitute teachers who hold an Initial Certificate and are working in a district for over 40 days are required to have a mentor. Perhaps you all knew this already but it came as news to me. We are working on modifying our current mentor program to address the needs of this unique group. If you are providing service to this group of teachers already I would love to hear about what you are doing. I am also interested in how ARRA and Stimulus money is being handled. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Sonya

Please consider the following:
1. Is this statement a vision or a mission? I prefer a vision statement so that ERAC has some tension between where we are today and where we envision ourselves to be in a preferred future.
2. I would like to see some statement to the effect that ERAC envisions itself to be a leader in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development for the purpose of ensuring that all students for whom we are collectively responsible attain high academic, social and emotional standards.
3.Perhaps a statement about the critical importance of staying fully informed about the direction New York State is heading would be helpful as it is our task to be planning out ahead of SED initiatives.
4. Perhaps there should be some language that speaks of innovation, alignment with best practice, research, and the integration/infusion of interactive communication and knowledge generation tools.

The Mission of the ERAC is to enhance collaborative efforts among Dutchess County Assistant Superintendents of Instruction (HOW DO YOU MEASURE AN ENHANCED COLLABORATIVE EFFORT?)(or other representatives), and to keep informed regarding issues of instruction, curriculum and assessment.(CAN'T THIS BE DONE THROUGH MEMO?) This group is geared toward Dutchess County School District Assistant Superintendents of Instruction and/or other representatives.
I would hope the mission of ERAC would be to allow colleagues to come together to share expertise and work product and reduce redundancy in our work. Also to provide information about how things are done in each of the districts in areas in which success is being experienced.

Hi All, I want to be the first to christen this blog. Pawling's major professional development initiatives include supporting all students through: co-teaching, Response to Intervention, creating balanced literacy environments and increasing the effective use of technology throughout the District. We appreciate any input and support we can get. Sonya

At the May ERAC meeting the members agreed to conduct a short (5 minute) briefing by district discussing current initiatives and professional development offerings to help us better understand "where we are, why we're there and how we can move forward collaboratively". These briefings will be shared at the June ERAC meeting. We further agreed that those interested in sharing with the group prior to the meeting should do so.
